WEEK SEVEN QUESTIONS
QUESTION 1: Share this week’s tasks. Don’t forget to leave a comment on someone else’s work. QUESTION 2: Would you eat a tarantula? Explain why/why not. QUESTION 3: What do you think the “roar” was the children heard? Explain why you think this. QUESTION 4: Why do you think the man seemed so sad? Explain your thinking. QUESTION 5: Why do you think it is important for the children to learn how to hunt on their own? QUESTION 6: Why are the children trying so hard to make the Explorer like them? QUESTION 7: Why do you think the people that created the city went to great lengths to hide it? Explain your answer. QUESTION 8: How long do you think it took the unknown people to build this city? Explain your answer. QUESTION 9: Why do you think the Explorer is going to great lengths to hide the city? Use information from the story to guide your answer. QUESTION 10: Why do you think Fred wishes the Explorer was his dad? Explain your answer. VOCABULARY: ferociously, citadel, periscope, serenade, conspiratorially, idiocy, conclave, winced, gravitas DRAW: The snake about to attack the children. INVESTIGATE what the name of the snake is. Remember it is violent green, whitish belly and had red eyes. DESIGN/DRAW: your own fish spare. PRACTICE: walking so quietly that no one can hear you. Can you be as quiet as the Explorer? INVESTIGATE: Tarantulas. DRAW and label its parts. RESEARCH: What types of fish are found in NZ lakes? Name them. MAP their locations on a map of NZ INVESTIGATE whether you could spear fish in NZ. INVESTIGATE: find out what NZ’s largest spider is. Draw it and tell us where it can be found. Then INVESTIGATE what is NZ most poisonous spider. CREATE a warning poster about it. WRITE an explanation on how to spear fish. DESIGN: a fish catcher that doesn’t involve a spear. MAPPING: Create a map of the hidden city and show where the spiders and fish are in the map. Use compass points to explain where things are located. DRAW: a picture of the Explorer, compare it to your first drawing of him, has it changed? WRITE a character description about him, now that you have more information about him. DIARY WRITING: Don’t forget to fill in your diary entry this week for the person you chose to take their perspective. MINECRAFT: Create the whole city and area around it based on what you had read so far in the book. Make like a ‘birds eye view’.
